The Irong is a rocky ridge within the Loboi plain bordering the western side of Lake Bogoria. This is a traditional romantic site (Kibimchor) and a community security vantage point.
This is a high-altitude area located in a high-altitude area (2,782m above sea level. It is the best point to observe migratory Palearctic birds.
The site geology is characterized by greyish Kabarnet trachytes. Various volcanic structures also occur, associated with volcanic activities such as lava tubes and volcanic caves
The site comprises two hills, namely Morop and Tarambas. The hills were explored by the first well-known European Geologist, Joseph Thomson, who deduced the existence of the great fault in 1883
This is a deep and narrow gorge section of the Kerio River extending 3- 4 km, with depth ranging between 20- 30 meters.
This geosite is on the winding and steep section of the Kabarnet-Iten road. The location offers a spectacular view of the Western Rift Block (Elgeyo Escarpment) characterized by imposing fault scarps/cliffs.
