A geoscientific training for geologists, with the support of the PanAfGeo programme, is underway at Kabarnet, a town at the heart of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley geological formation. The forum brings together geoscientific experts from both the African and European Geological Surveys with the aim of building the capacity of geologists on governance and sustainable management of georesources. The participants in the Baringo County workshop are drawn from ten African countries.
The week-long training programme is particularly beneficial to Baringo because it recently submitted its application to UNESCO for consideration as a UNESCO Global Geopark. The facilitators come from the Geological Society of Spain, Italy and Kenya.
